In Between Becoming and Unbecoming, 2019
Installation // Inkjet print 54” x 36”, oil pastel, oil paint, 4”x6” photograph, chalkboard paint, chalk, 8 hours of labor // 2019

Stemming from the definition of mulatto, which translates, sterile hybrid, “Black does not equal brown, Brown is the eyes; black is in the mind” is written repeatedly in chalk across the entirety of the wall, becoming a mantra and declaration of relearning, affirming, and "legitimizing" my mixed race identity.
